EPA is a recognized and respected voice in European policy-making, representing over 150 million parents through our diverse membership of national and regional parent associations across Europe. Our strength lies in our pan-European reach, supported by a well-structured organization including a rotating Board of Directors composed of 7 members from different European countries, an expert pool of former board members (“Ambassadors”), an extensive network of contacts, a dedicated project manager, and a lean representation in Brussels.
This structure allows us to flexibly adapt to today’s fast-changing societal challenges and the resulting policy demands, providing us with invaluable insights into the diverse educational landscapes, challenges, and innovative solutions being implemented across different countries. This breadth of experience, combined with our collaborative work with numerous European and international NGOs and expertise gained through research-based EU-funded projects, positions EPA as a key stakeholder for European institutions and policymakers.
We engage in evidence-based advocacy, leveraging data and the lived experiences of parents to influence policy development and implementation. Our contributions include:
- Consultations: Providing expert input on EU legislative proposals and policy initiatives re latedto education, family well-being, digital literacy, mental health, and other relevant areas. This includes responding to public consultations, drafting position papers, and participating in expert working groups.
- Dialogue: Participating in high-level discussions with European institutions, including the European Commission, the European Parliament, and the Council of Europe, to ensure the parental perspective is heard and considered. We engage in regular meetings with policymakers, present at conferences, and contribute to policy debates.
- Collaboration: Working in partnership with other civil society organizations, researchers, and experts to amplify our collective voice and promote policies that support families and children. Our collaborations span a wide range of organizations, from child welfare advocates to digital rights experts.
- Representation: Representing the interests of parents and families in various European forums and platforms, advocating for their rights and needs. This includes participation in stakeholder consultations, advisory boards, and high-level events.
EPA serves as a vital link between parents on the ground – via our member organizations – and policy-makers in Brussels. We amplify the voices of our members, ensuring their concerns and priorities are reflected in European policies that directly impact their lives and the lives of the families they represent. By being part of EPA, member organizations contribute to a powerful collective effort to shape a better future for all European families.
